Just a swinging........

There's nothing like coming home after a long day of clinical to pushing your little man in his swing. His laughter is contagious and I just feel the weight lifted off my shoulders. Today was a pretty good day! I had a fabulous nurse I was working with. Sometimes older nurses can be difficult. There's a saying that nurses eat their young and I can tell you with some of them it's true!

Luckily, today was a great day! Little man had a Halloween party at preschool! He dressed up in a cowboy costume! I wish I would have been able to get pictures, but I was at the hospital by 6:30 AM! He had a great time and is really looking forward to going trick or treating this year! On my way home I stopped by the store to pick up a few things and I got him a little prize as well!
His cute monster cookie!

He was so excited!

Being a nurse is something I have wanted to do ever since I was a little girl. I've never questioned it, I just knew it was the right profession for me. Before I started nursing school I wanted to be a nurse because I liked the medical part of it. I liked the thought of being able to start IV's,pull central lines, the blood and guts. My very first semester a teacher told our class something I will never forget. Nurses are not medical people. We are health care people. And that's what the nurse is there for. We care for people. Sure the medical stuff is in there somewhere. It has to be to get patients well. But the role of the nurse is to care for people. I like getting to do skills like starting IV's,pulling central lines, and giving shots. But it isn't those skills that will make me a good nurse. It's caring and compassion for the patients I take care of that will make me a good nurse. I learned a few weeks ago that it is the small things I can do as a student that can really make a difference in my patients day. I love to take care of people. It kills my soul to hear people say "I want to be a nurse because they make a lot of money." You should never get into a profession because of how much money you will make. Specially with nursing. If you don't enjoy your job you won't be a good nurse. Ok there's my rant on that!
Today I have a half day of clinical.  We don't get to meet our patient we just get our patient assignment.  Then I get to come home and stay up all night working on my care plan and looking up all the medications I will give at my full day of clinical tomorrow.  I can't wait to be a nurse.  But I won't miss nursing school!

Sirens and Studying

If you live in certain parts of Tennessee you become accustomed to tornadoes. It's something you've dealt with every year when the weather starts to cool off. I've always been afraid of storms, which is something my dad ingrained in me from an early age. I remember plenty of times being woken up from a deep sleep by my dad saying "sirens are going off we've got to go". We'd rush over to my neighbors house and hide out in the basement until the storms have passed. We've always escaped major damage but others haven't been so lucky. I had plans today of taking little man to preschool and coming home and studying in the peace and quiet. However, when I woke up and turned on the tv I saw we were under a tornado watch for most of the day. Needless to say little man stayed at home with me. Right now most of the counties surrounding me are under a tornado warning. We're in the clear right now but still remain under a tornado watch. I managed to step out and grab a couple shots of an ominous looking cloud right before the bottom dropped out and it started raining cats and dogs!

I have a huge test to study for on Monday but for now I'm going to keep an eye out on the weather!  Here are some more pictures of little man and our pets for your viewing pleasure!

Brand new!

Hello!  I am brand new to this whole blogging thing!  I'd like to thank my best friend Brittany over at Boots and Pearls for getting me into blogging!  I guess I'll start out by telling a little about me!  I am twenty something years old!  I have a 2 year old son who will be 3 in March!  I've been engaged for almost 4 years!  We are going to get married as soon as I finish school!  I'm in nursing school and I will graduate in May!  I have wanted to be a registered nurse for most of my life and I can't wait for that dream to come true!  I love working in woman's health!  I really want to work in labor and delivery after I graduate!  I plan to go back to school to get my masters degree and be a woman's health nurse practitioner!  I spend a lot of time doing school work right now, but when I'm not studying I love to spend time with my family and friends!  I love riding dirt bikes and four wheelers!  I plan to use this blog kind of as a journal to look back on and to share my crazy nursing stories with people!  Thanks for stopping by!
